Heritage BreEd Pork
Our Pigs at StarWalker Organic Farms are Heritage Breed. Heritage breeds are traditional breeds of pigs that were raised for food in the past, however their numbers dwindled during the rise of industrial agriculture. In the last 15 years, almost 200 breeds of farm animals have gone extinct worldwide. Often times heritage breeds take longer to grow to market weight. These breeds are usually more delicious, so the wait is worth it. Heritage Breeds have a marbling score of 3-5 allowing for more flavor and juiciness.
To be considered a heritage breed, an animal has to have unique genetic traits and be raised on an organic and sustainable farm. That is why we take pride in our Heritage Breed here at StarWalker Organic Farms.
